Hello, and welcome back to the SoPure Stevia blog! In our previous post we listed a few steps you can take today to start reducing the amount of excess sugar you consume in a day and, in today’s post, we are going to list two more ways to reduce your dependence on sugar. While we understand that it is nearly impossible to completely eliminate sugar from your diet, there are ways to greatly reduce the amount of unneeded sugar from your diet. As we have stated multiple times, sugar, especially in the quantities that the average person consumes it, has the ability to wreak havoc on the human body. Our bodies are designed to handle a certain amount of natural sugar, however, with the prevalence of sugar in everything that we eat, our bodies are struggling to keep up. We hope that by the end of this blog you are more aware of ways to reduce the amount of sugar that you consume in a day and we hope that you consider our stevia extracts as a viable sugar alternative.

Do You Know How Much Sugar You Consume in a Day

In a recent study published by Forbes magazine, it was determined that the average American consumes three pounds of sugar each week. This translates to roughly 130 pounds of sugar each week and 3,550 pounds of sugar over a lifetime. Considering the American Heart Association recommends that the average adult only consumes 9.5 teaspoons of sugar a day, you can quickly see that sugar consumption has spiraled out of control. To help you take control of your diet and reduce the amount of excess sugar you consume, below we have listed two more steps you can take to kick that sugar habit.

  • Check Your Food: While this one might seem a little obvious, it is one of the most important steps you can take in reducing the amount of sugar that you consume. When was the last time that you looked at the nutrition facts on the food that you consume? If you are a health conscious person, it probably hasn’t been that long, however, when was the last time you paid attention to the amount of sugar that is in the things you eat? While it’s easy to gauge how many calories, carbohydrates, or fat is in the things you eat, sugar is a little more difficult to determine. Sugar is one of the only substances in food that is not given a percentage based on recommended daily intake. This makes it hard for people to gauge whether or not they are consuming too much sugar in a day and is the reason that checking the nutrition fact son your food is so important. If you start to notice that a lot of the food you normally consume contains high amounts of sugar, consider finding options that do not contain as much sugar. Additionally, if you are cooking with a recipe and it calls for sugar, consider using our granulated stevia extracts instead. Your food will have all of the sweet taste that you desire without the addition of a lot of unnecessary sugar.
  • Reduce Sweets: Our last step is also the hardest. We are sure that you have heard over and over again how important it is to limit the amount of sweets you consume on a daily basis. Like many things related to the food we eat, saying something can be a lot harder than actually doing something. However, just by cutting out one or two sweets a week, you can greatly reduce the amount of sugar that you consume. If you think that you will have difficulty giving up or reducing the amount of sweets that you consume, try taking baby steps. Have a designated time that you can eat sweets and only consume them during that time. Once you have set up a routine it will be much easier to start to reduce the amount of sweets that you eat.
